SUMMARY:MKE River Kayaking Section 2: Newburg
DESCRIPTION:Relax and let the current guide you.\nOur river kayak adventures are self-guided and almost all are beginner-friendly. We provide the kayak\, gear\, and a shuttle ride upstream—so all you have to do is float back down to your parked car at your own pace. No loops\, no backtracking\, no hassle. It’s the perfect way to explore the outdoors without needing your own gear or experience. We primarily use stable sit-on-top kayaks(sit-ins also available)\, and the river is generally shallow\, calm\, and easy to navigate with occasional riffles or rapids that are detailed below. \nSection-Specific Details\n\nArguably one of the most beautiful stretches of the Milwaukee River\, this section is known for its clear water\, minimal development\, and abundant wildlife. The river flows through scenic woodlands—including a peaceful stretch alongside Riveredge Nature Center—making it a favorite for birdwatchers and nature lovers. Choose between a longer 5–6 hour journey from Newburg Fireman’s Park or a shorter 2.5-hour option from the Hwy A bridge\, with both routes ending at Waubedonia Park. Expect a few light rapids and occasional shallow spots\, especially during low water.\nDifficulty Level: Beginner\nPut Ins: Option 1 starts at Newburg Fireman’s Park\, the shorter Option 2 starts at Hwy A Bridge (a more rustic launch\, requires carrying kayak across the road & bridge\, then down to the river).\nTake Out: Waubedonia Park in Fredonia\nMeeting Point/Parking: Waubedonia Park (launch area south of Hwy H by campground)\nRiver Miles: Option 1: 11 miles\, Option 2: 5.2 miles\nApprox. Paddle Time: Option 1: 5 hours\, Option 2: 2.5 hours\nBathrooms: Newburg Fireman’s Park: Porta potty. Hwy A: None. Waubedonia Park: Pit toilets by launch\, flush toilets in east end of park.\nRapids: A few riffles here and there\, but overall a great paddle for beginners. \nJuly 19 Departures:\n10:30am:\nOption 1\, 5-6 hours. Park at Waubedonia\, then we take you up to Newburg\n12:00pm:\nOption 2\, 2.5 hours. Park at Waubedonia\, then we take you up to Hwy A landing.\nWhat’s Included: \n\nSingle or tandem kayak rental\nPaddle and life jacket\nShuttle transportation upstream\nFree use of dry bag and/or floating phone case\n\nWhat to Bring: \n\nWeather-appropriate clothing and footwear that can get wet (no flip flops)\nTowel and dry clothes for after the paddle\nWater and snacks\nSunscreen and insect repellent\nHat and sunglasses\nWaterproof bag for personal items\n\nPricing: \n\nOwn Boat Shuttle Service: $25 per person\nSingle Kayak Rental: $55 per person\nTandem Kayak Rental: $95 for two people\n\nMeeting Location: Waubedonia Park\, Fredonia. \nDay-Of Reservations: \nGiven the mobile nature of our operations\, we load our trailer in the morning with pre-reserved boats plus a few extras. For same-day reservations\, please text or call us at 414-261-3871 to ensure availability. \nNotes:\n\nAbout River Levels: The Milwaukee River is a natural\, free-flowing waterway—meaning conditions can vary with rainfall. You may occasionally scrape the riverbed in shallower spots\, and in rare cases\, you might need to briefly exit your kayak to walk it through a low section. If water levels are too low for a safe or enjoyable paddle\, we’ll switch to a different river section and notify you in advance.\nParticipants must be at least 12 years old to paddle their own kayak. Younger children can join in a tandem kayak with an adult. Minimum weight requirement is 50 pounds due to life jacket specifications.\nWe encourage participants to assist in carrying kayaks to and from the launch site when possible.\nThis is a self-guided experience. While some participants may choose to paddle together\, you are welcome to enjoy the journey solo or with your group.\n\n  \nFrequently Asked Questions (FAQs)\nDo I need prior kayaking experience? \nNo prior experience is necessary. Our adventures are designed to be beginner-friendly\, and our team will provide a brief orientation before you set out. Any rapids are laid out in the section info above. \nWhat happens if I tip? \nTipping is rare\, but it can happen—especially if you’re horsing around or hit an obstacle just right. The good news? We primarily use sit-on-top kayaks\, which are incredibly stable\, easy to climb back into\, and virtually unsinkable thanks to built-in drainage holes. We also offer sit-inside kayaks upon request. The Milwaukee River averages about 100 feet wide and is shallow enough to stand in many areas\, so if you do tip\, you can either climb back in from the water or head to shore to recombobulate and get back on your way. \nWhat is the cancellation policy? \nOur trips operate rain or shine unless there is severe weather. Cancellations made more than 48 hours in advance will receive a full refund. Cancellations within 48 hours of departure are not eligible for a refund unless there is dangerous weather. \nCan I bring food and drinks on the river? \nYes! Feel free to pack water\, snacks\, and beverages for your paddle. Alcoholic drinks are allowed\, but please enjoy responsibly—boating under the influence is illegal and unsafe. There is a storage space in each kayak to bring a small cooler. We also ask that you leave glass and styrofoam at home to protect the river and wildlife. As always\, follow Leave No Trace principles: pack out everything you bring in\, and help keep the river beautiful for everyone. \nAre there age/weight restrictions? \nPaddlers must be at least 12 years old to be in a single kayak. Anyone under 12 must be in a tandem kayak with an adult. Minimum weight is at least 50 pounds due to life jacket regulations.  \nWeight capacity by boat: \n\nStandard sit-on-top(default): 300 pounds\nLarger sit-on-top: 350 pounds\nStandard sit-in: 275 pounds\nLarger sit-in: 325 pounds\nTandem: 500 pounds\n\nCan I bring my dog? \nFor safety and comfort\, pets are not permitted on our kayaking adventures. \nWhat happens in case of bad weather? \nWe monitor weather conditions closely. In the event of severe weather\, we may reschedule or cancel the trip for safety reasons. Participants will be notified as early as possible and offered a reschedule or refund. \nAre there restrooms along the route? \nRestroom availability varies by section\, see above. \n

SUMMARY:MKE River Kayaking Section 6: Thiensville
DESCRIPTION:Relax and let the current guide you.\nOur river kayak adventures are self-guided and almost all are beginner-friendly. We provide the kayak\, gear\, and a shuttle ride upstream—so all you have to do is float back down to your parked car at your own pace. No loops\, no backtracking\, no hassle. We primarily use stable sit-on-top kayaks(sit-ins also available)\, and the river is generally shallow\, calm\, and easy to navigate with occasional riffles or rapids that are detailed below. \nSection-Specific Details\nThis crowd favorite is part of our “Core Four” for a reason—reliable water levels\, peaceful paddling\, and some of the most natural scenery on the river. The first half feels almost untouched\, winding through forested banks and wildlife habitat with barely a house in sight. SUMMARY:MKE River Kayaking Section 6: Thiensville
DESCRIPTION:Father’s Day Paddle! Relax and let the current guide you.\nOur river kayak adventures are self-guided and almost all are beginner-friendly. As you approach Thiensville\, you’ll pass nature preserves before the river begins to widen and slow\, taking on a lake-like feel near the dam. Expect a calm\, scenic float with occasional boat traffic near the end on busy weekends.\nDifficulty Level: Easy\nPut In: Garrison’s Glen in Mequon.\nTake Out: Village Park in Thiensville.\nMeeting Point/Parking: Village Park in Thiensville\, plenty of parking.\nRiver Miles: 6.5 miles\nApprox. Paddle Time: 2.5-3 hours\nBathrooms: Garrison’s Glen: None. Thiensville Village Park: Flush toilets\nRapids: A few riffles possible towards the beginning in low water\, but most of this section is plenty deep and calm. \nWhat’s Included: \n\nSingle or tandem kayak rental\nPaddle and life jacket\nShuttle transportation upstream\nFree use of dry bag and/or floating phone case\n\nWhat to Bring: \n\nWeather-appropriate clothing and footwear that can get wet (no flip flops)\nTowel and dry clothes for after the paddle\nWater and snacks\nSunscreen and insect repellent\nHat and sunglasses\nWaterproof bag for personal items\n\nPricing: \n\nOwn Boat Shuttle Service: $25 per person\nSingle Kayak Rental: $55 per person\nTandem Kayak Rental: $95 for two people\n\nMeeting Location: Thiensville Village Park \nDay-Of Reservations: \nGiven the mobile nature of our operations\, we load our trailer in the morning with pre-reserved boats plus a few extras. For same-day reservations\, please text or call us at 414-261-3871 to ensure availability. \nNotes: \n\nAbout River Levels: The Milwaukee River is a natural\, free-flowing waterway—meaning conditions can vary with rainfall. While some participants may choose to paddle together\, you are welcome to enjoy the journey solo or with your group.\n\nFrequently Asked Questions (FAQs)\nDo I need prior kayaking experience? \n

SUMMARY:Learn to Paddle with Milwaukee Riverkeeper
DESCRIPTION:We’re excited to partner with Milwaukee Riverkeeper on a Learn to Paddle event! MRK’s own Leah Holloway will lead participants on a journey from Thiensville to Brown Deer on the Milwaukee River. Includes both land-based and on-the-water instruction for the novice paddler. In addition to being the Program Manager for Milwaukee Riverkeeper\, Leah has years of experience guiding beginning kayakers through the process of learning the safety and paddling techniques that will lead to a enjoyable experience on the water. \nAs an outreach program of Riverkeeper\, Forward Outdoor is offering discount pricing of just $25 per person (+taxes/fees)\, with $10 of that donated back to the organization! We will meet at Badger Meter River Park in Brown Deer\, then hop in the Forward Outdoor van and be driven up to Thiensville Village Park to begin. You will end up back at your car in Brown Deer. Paddling time alone is normally about 2 hours for this section\, and with instruction time/bathroom stop it should take about 3-3.5 hours total. \nNOTES:\n-Due to unpredictable fall water levels\, we may switch to a different section of the river if water is too low.\n-Must be at least 12 years old to participate and paddle in your own boat.\n-Upon arrival at launch we ask anyone who is physically able to help each other out with carrying kayaks from the trailer to the launch if needed. \nIncludes: Kayak rental (single sit-on-top)\, paddle\, life jacket\, shuttle transportation upriver\, and instruction from Milwaukee Riverkeeper\, who will also provide safety paddlers to ensure everyone’s welfare. Does not include food or drinks\, please bring your own as you see fit. \nAbility Level: Beginner friendly \nGear to bring: Shoes and clothing that can get wet and are appropriate for the day’s weather conditions\, towel\, water\, snacks\, sunscreen\, bug spray\, dry clothes for after. \nMeeting Location: Badger Meter River Park\, Brown Deer\, WI. \n

We provide the kayak\, gear\, and a shuttle ride upstream—so all you have to do is float back down to your parked car at your own pace. No loops\, no backtracking\, no hassle.
