What is Forward Outdoor?
Forward Outdoor is all about making outdoor adventures easy and accessible. We offer kayak rentals, river shuttles, and mobile outdoor gathering spaces to help people connect with nature and each other.
Where are you located?
We operate along the Milwaukee River and surrounding waterways, with shuttle services covering 10 sections from West Bend to Milwaukee. Our Summer Basecamp locations vary, with river and lake setups on Thursdays and Fridays.
How do I book a rental, shuttle, or event?
You can book online through our website. If you have a private group request or need assistance, feel free to contact us!
Kayak Rentals & River Shuttles
What is a river shuttle, and how does it work?
A river shuttle lets you paddle one-way without worrying about how to get back to your car. Here’s how it works:
- Park your car at the take-out (where you’ll finish your trip).
- Hop in our van, and we’ll transport you and your boat upriver to the put-in.
- Paddle back to your car at your own pace—no need to worry about moving vehicles or extra logistics!
How much does a shuttle cost?
- $55 per single kayak rental (includes shuttle)
- $95 per tandem kayak rental (includes shuttle)
- $25 to shuttle you and your own boat
How long do the trips take?
Paddling times depend on the section, water levels, and your pace. Most trips take 2-4 hours. Specific details for each river section can be found on our River Shuttles page.
Can I bring my own kayak or canoe?
Yes! We offer shuttle-only service for those bringing their own boat (must be 16′ or shorter to fit in our trailer).
Can I bring my dog?
While we are personally big fans of dogs, due to allergies of other guests and liability dogs are not allowed at this time.
What should I bring for my trip?
We recommend:

✔️ Waterproof phone case (we can provide)
✔️ Change of clothes in your car
✔️ Dry bag for valuables (we can provide)
What happens if there’s bad weather?
If conditions are unsafe due to storms, high water, or strong winds, we will reschedule or refund your trip. We’ll notify you as soon as possible.
Summer Basecamp
What is Summer Basecamp?
Summer Basecamp is our mobile outdoor gathering space, set up on Thursdays at a river shuttle location and Fridays at a lake location. It’s a place to relax, play games, and connect before or after kayaking.
Can I book a private group at Summer Basecamp?
Yes! Daytime slots on Thursdays and Fridays are available for private group reservations, perfect for team outings, birthdays, and other gatherings.
What happens at the public evening events?
- Thursday Nights: Social River Paddle – Join a group paddle at a river location.
- Friday Nights: Sunset & Moonlight Paddle + Special Activities – Enjoy a scenic paddle at a lake location, with options for yoga or painting as part of the experience.
Both events are a great way to meet fellow paddlers and enjoy the water in a fun, social setting!
Booking & Policies
Do I need a reservation, or can I just show up?
Reservations are highly recommended, especially for shuttles and kayak rentals. Walk-ups may be accommodated if space is available. If looking to join day-of, please call or text us at 414-261-3871 to check availability.
What is your cancellation policy?
- More than 48 hours before your trip – Full refund or reschedule.
- Less than 48 hours before your trip – No refund, but you may reschedule.
- Weather-related cancellations – Full refund or reschedule.
Are there any age restrictions?
Paddlers must be 12 years or older to rent a kayak solo. Younger children can ride in a tandem kayak with an adult.
👉 Children must weigh at least 50 pounds due to life jacket regulations.
Do you provide life jackets?
Yes! Life jackets (PFDs) are included with all rentals and must be worn while on the water.

Yes! We offer discounts for large groups and corporate outings. Contact us for details.
Do you sell Paddle Passport gear?
Not yet! But stay tuned—we’re working on it!
